1U + BBQ Gathering

Hi people!

It's me again, leaving a short summary bout the gathering.

To begin with, 15 of us gathered at Italiannies at 1U's New Wing around 12 to 12.15pm. Took about 20 minutes for us to decide on what were we to eat. Some of us just wanted the free bread and plain water after skimming through the not-our-daily-AsiaCafe's-price-menu (if you know what i mean). So, we ate, laughed, talked, teased Yoke Teng... the kind of things that we normally do =D. And then, Darren got the bill. Oh, no, he did not pay the whole RM307.90 (though there were several attempts to make him do so), he literally got the bill for us. We paid, about RM20 each and left.

Then, we headed on to the bowling alley. Primarily, 7 people played. After the first round, only 4 remained while the rest took off to explore 1U for some window shopping, how joyful. The 4 - Ashwin, Sandeep, Joshua and Kevin- had a 2 on 2 battle, the Perak team vs. the Selangor team. From what I heard, Perak was victorious.

At 4.40pm, we grouped in front of the cinema to watch The Simpsons. Even though we stalled a bit before going in, taking pics, buying drinks and watching a Doraemon trailer, we still managed to catch 15-20 minutes of good old adverts before the movie really began. Some had a good laugh, some felt it was alright while the rest... let's just say they were embarking on their journey to Dream-o Land instead. Perhaps to really get that good laugh, we'll need to watch the 400 episodes of the entire 18 years of Simpsons.

After that, of course, was time for the BBQ. Only 8 made it, excluding the host himself. But the house was definitely lively, with us there and about 5-6 of Kevin's sister's friends. The food was delicious and undoubtedly different from what you have out there. Kevin also made some cookies that were self-invented. I remember someone making a remark that it was much better than the lunch we had at Italiannies. So, I trust I do speak for everyone here, we would like to extend our appreciation for the great food and hospitality that you and your family had offered us that night. Thanks a lot, Kevin.

That's all about the summary. Not much of a short one perhaps. For some pics, you know where to go. Overall, though we didn't do anything out of the norm, it was fun. After all, it's the company that counts, isn't it?

Growing Up

Was looking through our Genting pictures when something struck me.

All of us, every single one of us, look so young, so carefree, and so devastatingly happy.

We are like these naïve youngsters about to step into the adult world, fresh out of the cocoon our parents have spun around us to protect us. We are so brave, so daring, and so sure of ourselves. We are ready to take on the world.

But somewhere along the journey to our dreams, we might falter, we might trip, we might fall. We might find that we are not as phenomenal as we thought we were.

We might fail.

We will pick ourselves up after every fall, of course, but nothing will ever be the same again. Nothing ever is. We will lose the proud courage, the reckless daring, the chin-up confidence.

The lost of innocence, this gradual process that people call "growing up" is truly, truly heartbreaking.

Years down the road, will we still remember the days we spent staring absentmindedly at lecturers in class? Will we still laugh at the same jokes? Will we still worry over the trivial matters that bothered us in college days? Will we still be able to "get" each other as well as we used to? Will we still recognise the person we used to be?

And most importantly, one day when we are old and wise, will we ever see that heartbreakingly innocent smile on our faces again?

Genting

So, a whole bunch of us (to be exact - 12) went up to Genting last Tuesday... 3 days 2 nights... and Genting is still as cold as it was... Three quarter of us couldn't sleep on the first night. We were on the 22nd floor of Ria (highest floor) and the crappy windows cannot be close securedly. You can hear ghostly swooshes of wind through every small slit in the apartment =) Maybe that was why it was so cold. 9 girls squeezed in one room of 3 queen size bed and 1 single bed. The remaining 3 guys? Well, they had the other room of 2 queen size bed.

First day. Went up to Genting. Checked-in. Went for lunch at Marry Brown (check out Ken Hui's imitation of Marry Brown's mascot in multiply). Then, headed on to the first world themepark. Went for Bumper Car (twice!), indoor Euro Express roller coaster (twice!), Venice Gondola (with weird singing gondolier statue at the back), Rio Float (hanging loose in the air around the plaza), Ferris Wheel, 4D Motion Master (err... weird) and Arcade. Dinner. Walked back to apartment. At night, the girls stayed up having girl-talks and playing games while the guys slept.

Second day. Very very cold. Only had 4 hours of sleep. Cup noodles and snacks as breakfast/lunch. Reason? We were saving space for a costly dinner. After that, we had different groups. Some headed on to the Outdoor Themepark while the rest departed to the First World Plaza. At 5, all of us met up and went for a buffet dinner at Coffee Terrace in Genting Hotel for RM48.30 each. All of us ate till we were too tired to do so. Stayed there till 9.30pm! Went back, watched shows and I'm not sure what happened later on. I slept... but i'm pretty sure the girls had another crazy night of chit-chatting. Perhaps the guys did too.

Third day. Nothing much. Got chased out of the apartment at 12 by the cleaners. Hurriedly packed everything (Hope we didn't leave anything behind though). Left Genting at 3.

Discoveries/trivia during the trip :-

You should carry an earplug if you were to sit next to Duo-Ying on a rollercoaster ride. Heck, not just rollercoasters, even the extra slow moving Ferris Wheel! She screams for no apparent reason... "Just for the fun of it."

Teddy lies to the very end even though he's bluffing in the game of 'Bluff'.

Ken Hui can sleep right about anywhere. (Hey, I think everyone one of us that brought a camera has at least 2 pictures of you sleeping somewhere not on the bed)

Chern has lots and lots of facial expression... especially when she eats.

You'd be amazed that when tiredness kicks in, even if there's a group of people playing noisy card games next to you or the tv is on, you can just sleep in (cough.. cough.. Wenyi, Jo, Teng...)

Don't trust Teng when she says she's feeling energetic and not an itsy bit of sleepiness at all. Guess who's the person that slept first on the couch, while the rest of us were watching Ugly Betty? <.<

Alvina is not quite a bus person. Almost threw up during the journey back down. Hmm, maybe if I did, I would have done it on the person sleeping peacefully next to me --> Duo-Ying. Haha, no... she got a plastic for me beforehand =)

Darren is also not a bus person. Had headaches too.

It is possible to lose in a game of Chor Tai Tee (Big2) even if u have all the 2s.

The girls can really start talking at night. (Rachel, Wenyi, Debbie, Cath, etc etc)

Some of us love to camwhore.

Largest bag award goes to Teddy. Smallest bag award goes to Teng.

What else did i leave out?

Overall, it was fun. But it'd be even better if the whole class could have made it. Here's some pics. Check out the rest in the multiply photo blog. Cheerios!

I was thinking we should have something about you in our class's blog. Well, I guess I will talk about the supposingly "Farewell Party" we had on Friday. I was very touched when our classmates worked together to plan for the surprise for you. Yoke Teng made you the wonderful card, Chern wrote you the super nice poem, Alvina made you the box and the name (which is much more nicer than mine!! haha) and others who contributed some awesome ideas, and don't mention the part when I had to message your dad!! Oh yea, and the lecturers who turned up for the party, it's really sweet and nice of them. But I was quite disappointed that you didn't cry!! I did. (How could you?! I lost my bet!! haha)

Anyway, we hope that you love all the small surprises you had. It's not really grand, but it's from US. We'll definately miss you and will always be praying for you. Do keep in touch and don't worry,I'll give Ms Annie a hard time when you are not around..haha..(hope she doesn't see this)

When it comes to something precious or meaningful, humans tend to fight for it with all their might.

But, sometimes, we reach a point where no matter what we do, it's just not good enough. We try our best, we put in all our effort. End result: we just get kicked in the ass, we get ignored, we are humiliated for our stupid attempts.

So, you know what? I give up. I give up trying, maybe I'm just not good enough. Correction: I am not good enough. I used up all my strength. I depleted all my hope. I have nothing left to say.

YES,I'm back!!!!

It's indeed great news for all PM4 students,I know.

Frequently asked questions:
(a) How is UK like?
Well,I went to London,Birmingham and Nottingham.It was really cold (thank God dodo birds still have feathers).But the few days spent there was superb!!!

(b) How did your interview go?
The interview was quite relaxing.Since lots of overseas applicants didn't turn up for the interview,me and Steph was interviewed straight away when we reached there.The interview lasted very short and I hope that it went well.

(c) How is it like to get compensation for delaying the flight?
Hmmm....Let me explain a bit first.Due to Easter holiday,the flight was overbooked.So they asked for four Malaysia passport holders to stay back and take the next day's flight.To compensate that,MAS gives us 10 pounds of food voulcher,a nice hotel to stay in and 400+pounds.It's A LOT!!!!So,me and Steph stayed in one room with one bed for the night!!!I'm sure that she had a great time with me.hahaha...

(d) Do you miss class?
Oh yes...I miss everyone back in Malaysia (I'm sure they miss me too!!).And I would like to thank Fuzzi Snow for collecting homework and writing a list of updates for me.Really appreciate it!!

(e) Any other things to say?
The whole trip was really crazy...I went to 3 different places in 4 days time,getting compensation from MAS and having so much fun the week before trials.And I had to suffer now.But I indeed had a great time there!!(oh yea,and I got an offer from Nottingham!!!!)

Dear PM4 students,

I have indeed grave news for you all.........I'm leaving to UK soon.

I'll be missing class for ONE WHOLE WEEK!!!Sad?Yea,I know.I'm really sorry for leaving you guys for one whole week.I am sure that most of you will be crying and counting days to see when am I coming back.I can't imagine how is class like without me.Ms Annie will be missing me,Mr Cheow will be searching for my voice,Mr Vara will be wondering where is the pretty duoying and Mrs Sukhdev will be asking everyday where am I.But remember....suicide is not the best solution.I know you all LOVE me.But don't try jumping down the building.

Guys,guys,don't be too dramatic lar.I will be back soon.I'll miss you all when I'm in UK.Just look at the sky when you miss me and you will see me waving at you(why do I sound like I'm dead?!)

Class Trip

That day Melody came to me and ask me to organise a trip after A2 examination.
Last year's trip was a failure and i really hope that this time around i will get better response...

There is a few rules that I want to put forward:
1. All information and discussion will be done in the class blog
2. I want at least half of the class to agree upon to go for the trip
3. money matter *most headache* must be settled before i do the payment

I think this is the only thing i want for now!

Bak Kut Teh

On Thursday, we have a field trip to this lovely bak kut teh shop!!
The bak kut teh is very good. The soup is very nice to drink! I can still taste it in my mouth now!!! yum yum!!! =)

If there is another chance, we have another food trip to Sri Petaling Steamboat!
That trip must be at night because the place is only open at night!

College Starting Soon!!!!!

I guess i shouldn't sound so happy.Okay,let me try again.College starting soon....*sob sob*

Well,I really had a great time during chinese new year.For those who are leaving for UK or Ireland,this would be the last year in the next 5 to 6 years time to celebrate CNY at Malaysia.So sad!!!hehe,but I suppose its an interesting experience though.

We(as in MY LOVE,Chern,Teng,Darren,Debbie and Cath) visited quite a few houses.I ate lots of biscuits at Chern's house.Teng's mum cooked the best spaggetti(Teng was so disappointed when her prince charming/my bro din turned up).And last but not the least,MY LOVE(Fuzzi Snow) played great organ.She really melted my heart!!!I guess everyone had a great time and it was really fun.

And COLLEGE STARTING NEXT WEEK!!Let us mourn for a while.....hehehe...

Anyway,hope that all of you had a great time and ENJOY college!!!

A Detailed Analysis of...

Indeed I have grave news... For myself... Haha... Ok, sorry for my lameness.

Anyway guys, to save myself from repeating everything, I shall just post it up here. So I got my reply from Kings College London.

I got rejected. Yup. So here is my detailed analysis on why the huge (or not so huge... hehe) "unsuccessful" word was plastered next to the university's name:

1. They thought I didn't take the interview seriously. Probably they misinterpreted my attempts to make the interview less stressful as a sign that I wasn't prim and proper enough. The terms I used such as "nerds" and "eccentricity" in the questionaire were probably viewed as me trying to be funny (which I was... But I wanted funny humour, not funny nonsensical). And I think they probably found out I was late for the interview too. Heeheehee.
2. They heard me talking about the university over 9000 miles away.
3. They don't want me to distract the male students there.

Haha. Okay, 2 and 3 were just utter nonsense. =) But yeah... About no. 2, a few of you asked me whether I liked the university or not. To the rest of you who didn't hear it: at first, I preferred it to the rest, but when I went there, I think I expected too much from the university and got a tad bit disappointed. I don't think I would have fit in. The environment is not like me at all. It was a little too serious. The campus ground was pretty but the building for the medicine faculty looked a bit dogdy to me.

So *sigh*... I might sound like a sour grape, but it was good that my hopes were reduced quite a bit to save me from a long, hard fall.

These are the replies to predicted questions or comments (even if its in your head.. ;) I read minds...):

"Aiyo... You wasted so much time and money and effort..."
-Hmmm... To me, the trip was not a waste at all. I got to see the university and re-ranked my university preferance. The trip was also a much-needed break for me. It spurred me on to study (hehe... I think) harder to achieve my aspirations. A VERY good trip for me personally.

"Are you ok?"
-Besides a litle dent to my pride, I am A-okay. Slowly deflating is how I would describe myself right now. A needed(?) humbling experience. It would have been excellent if I could scream "Oh, I got it!" right in front of class, but alas my fate was not to be. Takpa, life goes on.

"So what's your next choice?"
-Actually for now, only 2 universities replied. But as the days go by, I'm starting to lean more and more to Queen Mary. Apart from the fact that it is kind of secured, more and more thoughts keep coming like how it's a campus university, how its buildings look absolutely gorgeous, and how it won't be that lonely if I stayed there. I'll just see how things go.

That's all I can think of now. There were many "what if"s and "I could have"s, but I'm too lazy to dwell on it. Anyway, thanks for all your well wishes and support. Enjoy the remaining of the much-too-short holidays.

So I am back.

I'm not happy... But I have to study my butt off here before I can get my butt off to wherever I want to go. So i shall continue having the wide-eyed-trying-to-stay-awake-but-actually-my-soul-is-in-another-country look on my face for quite some time.

It was quite hard getting something for the guys... So i shall give you the privilege of breathing some oxygen (hopefully it lasted that 13-hour flight back and that 15 hours of Malaysian air) from the UK... =) orrrrrrrrrrr... You can ask me to speak in the British slang that I've picked up (although not perfect, it's getting there). Oh, there was this hot Chinese girl who was in the same waiting room as me. But it would be quite weird for me, the GIRL who was late, wearing a bright pink turtle neck top amidst the other interviewees who were clad in formal suits and me, the cina-mui from Malaysia to get a picture or video clip of her. Plus, her boyfriend was waiting outside. So, I'm so sorry guys. (Actually I'm not really lah.. Tee hee hee.. Nvm... :P)

Why am I up at this hour? Because of jet-lag, that's why!! So see you people in class tomorrow (or technically, today) and try to keep me awake (though I bet you guys won't read this in time).

Tension Aggravating Wait

In four more days we'll recieve our Cambridge 'AS' Level results...

This may spell joy and delight to some. They will reap the fruits flourished by their one year painstaking and diligent efforts in 2006. The reward: aaaaa.

Unfortunately, for some less fortunate individuals (like me), it will be a disastrous moment. The revelation of those long awaited results will only cast these poor souls into the depths of despair.

Just dropping by...

It's really scary how time flies. One year gone in a whisk. Friendships made, brains streched to its limits, new things learnt. I really didn't look forward to college. I didn't like the environment and I was cynical about the strength of the bonds that could be made in 1.5 years. But people can prove us wrong and right sometimes...

So I've learnt, live for the moment! Carpe diem! Sieze the beautiful day! Enjoy every moment we have with each other for now. We only live this life once. Make our lives matter. Embrace changes, something I didn't do and something which I regret not doing. I was too caught up grabbing on to rocks as the current of changes swept pass me. Yet I couldn't hold the current, and I missed the picturesque scenery of the journey on the waters.

So peeps of PM4, enjoy 2007! Cherish the moments and memories.
(Oh and please help me whack myself up when i'm not studying enough. Not too hard yah...)

The blog is created to actually unite all of us.
We can use the blog to get closer to each other and get to know each other better.
I am very sad to see our class, we are not united.

I really hope that everyone can actually be together as PM4 student.
We are left with 6 more months, then all the sweat, tears, joy, and laughter are left as memories.
I really want to be friends with all of you... Eventhough we are seperated miles away.
It is not easy to get a friend but it is very easy to lose one.

Dreams

Everyone has dreams. Some have just simple, modest dreams while others, dream of achieving greatness...

But what happens when our dreams are shattered and we are left to walk upon our own boulevard of broken dreams? Some collapse into despair and vexation, unable to rise again. Some, gather their strength and start from scratch again.

Some people accept this gigantic blow with optimism, discovering the blessing in disguise, learning from past mistakes, rising from the ashes again like a phoenix and in the end, sticking all the broken pieces of this shattered dream back into a solid reality.Unfortunately, some lose all their hopes. They see no light at the end of this tunnel, only a dead end. With the entrance blocked by a rock slide of broken dreams, they are trapped within their own darkness, created by the despair which they've succumbed to at the moment of the destruction of their treasured vision.

Maybe life isn't about getting what we want. Maybe life isn't about realising all our dreams. Maybe it is about recognizing this dream, and try to get it. Appreciating the small victories in the process. Learning from the small failures. Admiring the struggle it takes to stand up again after tumbling over failure. In the end, having the courage to still dream after countless failure is reason enough to celebrate.
